It does not seem like a decade since the world changed forever.
Covering the Rendez-vous in Monaco I was due to meet with Dennis Mahoney then of Aon at their headquarters in the Hotel de Paris. All thoughts of interviews and rates were vanished by the terrible scenes unfolding before us on the room’s television screens as we met.
What made it worse was that the Aon delegation in Monaco was fully aware their colleagues were trapped in one of the towers and even before the World Trade Center collapsed; this was a personal and human tragedy rather than a major insured event for so many in our industry.
It was for our generation that world defining moment which has shaped not only the industry, but also the way in which we live.
There are plans to honour the memories of those who perished at this year’s Rendez-vous and we can expect a uniform observance and more then a few tears for the work colleagues and friends who perished .
