Ed hires Clarkson-led marine team

21st December 2017

Heather Clarkson, a senior London market Aon marine executive, joins the private equity backed wholesaler Ed in early 2018 to become the managing director of the broker’s marine practice, Reinsurance can reveal.

Also joining her are two of her former Miller colleagues, Chris Hales and Chris Sapsford, as senior producers within the Ed team.

Clarkson resigned from Aon, where she was Chief Broking Officer – Marine and head of hull, earlier this year and all three join the London-headquartered Ed on the 2 January.

Speaking to Reinsurance, Ed CEO Steve Hearn confirmed that Clarkson was poised to join the firm and welcomed her arrival.

“My way of doing things is getting the right leaders in place and Heather is very much a leader”.

She is a very experienced mariner and she is also the first senior female broker on the Ed Executive Team. We are delighted she is joining”.

Hearn also told Reinsurance that the trio takes the number of Ed broker hires since September 2016 – when it rebranded at the Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous from its previous name Cooper Gay – to 147.

“We are already seeing the benefits of our investment in talent”, he explained.

“Ed has enjoyed 14 percent year-on-year revenue growth in October and 12 percent in November. We are confident of achieving double-digit growth in 2018”.

The Ed hires are the latest changes to occur within the talent pool of London marine producers and underwriters. Earlier this week, Reinsurance revealed that RSA’s Europe and International Marine Director David Taylor had left the organisation while XL Catlin had lured Brit Insurance cargo underwriter Andrew Coutts.

Separately, Sirius Syndicate 1945 decided this week to withdraw from writing marine cargo, XoL and yacht business. re
